| Born in Leeds in the West Riding of Yorkshire in 1963 and lived in Sheffield
from 3 until becoming an economic migrant in 1989 when I moved
darn sarf, where I now live in exile
(in Harlow, Essex) with
my wife Ginette. We were married in April 1999 after seven years of
sinful living, and are the extremely proud parents of George,
Harry (1999), and Juliet (2004). How do I feel today? Click here.(29k) |

My Interests:
| Genealogy: I am researching my family history- I have traced my Hogley ancestors from the Huddersfield area to the Pontefract area (Wragby, Kellington and Darrington), West Yorkshire) in 1701. I have solved the problem of my g-g-g-grandfather Joseph Orton of South Kilworth, and am finding out more about his ancestors from Walton in Kimcote, Leicestershire. See my Genealogy page, which details my research, and links to places of interest, or look at my list of ancestors. |

Thomas Tew the Pirate: My Tew family has been traced back to
ca.1460, including a famous
pirate Thomas Tew of Rhode Island. Follow the links to see
some of the research I have carried out on this part of the Tew family, as
part of the book I intend to publish on him. See if you can spot the inspiration for Red Flag's logo. |

| Backgammon: I play on Netgammon (now and again), and have been a member of BIBA. |

| Food and Wine: I love creating fine food, having entered the odd competition to test my skills, including BBC's Masterchef. The best bit about cooking is the eating bit afterwards with a bottle of fine wine. |

| Juddering Jellyfish, Its Captain Pugwash! There is very little information available on the Internet about the courageous Captain Pugwash. |

Sheffield Wednesday: I follow
the Owls in their downs and ups and downs. Learn about Paolo Ortonelli's (no relation, surely!) leadership of the
famous Italian Army. Hillsborough was the site of football's worst disaster on 15 April 1989 when nearly a hundred Liverpool fans were killed. The fight for justice continues. |

| Independent Yorkshire: I am very interested in the history of Yorkshire as an independent Anglo-Saxon kingdom. During the Dark Ages the various kingdoms of Anglo-Saxon England fought with each other for supremacy. What we know as Yorkshire was then the kingdom of Deira. Its history was strongly linked with Bernicia, with which it combined to become the powerful kingdom of Northumbria in 670. Deira was the dominant nation in Britain under Edwin (the greatest ever Yorkshireman?), as was Northumbria under Oswald and Oswy. |

| Richard III : The only Northerner to have become monarch of England since Anglo-Saxon times, and quite different from the baddy portrayed by Shakespeare. Who did actually order the death of the Princes is still not settled. Henry Tudor had a stronger motive but Richard had the better opportunity. Click on the picture to find out more. My earliest known ancestor, Richard Tew of Eydon, born ca.1460, would have been the right age to have fought at that national disaster, the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. |

| In case you want to know my religious beliefs, I am a devout atheist- a humanist- whose beliefs are based on reason. I support the aims of the British Humanist Association and the National Secular Society, particularly on disestablishmentarianism. Remember that freedom of religion can also mean freedom from religion. |
