Robert Mace Rodgers- Escape from German Hands in 1940-1

This page is from the article from the (Lincolnshire) Standard on 26 Dec 1942, which tells of Robert Mace Rodgers and his friend's escape from the Germans in July 1940, finally getting back to England in March 1941.  Rose (Robert's sister) wrote about this in her brief Rodgers family history, which inspired me to get a copy of the article from the British Newspaper Library.


Note that the article is dated December 1942, and states that they returned to England in March of 'this year'.  This must be a mistake.

Genalogical notes from this article:
Robert Mace Rodgers of Holbeach was staying with his mother-in-law, Mrs E Spikins of Brothertoft Road, probably Holbeach.
He was from Holbeach but lived in Boston for the last twenty years.  He was the fourth son of Mr and Mrs Rodgers who for three years kept the Little Peacock in Wormgate.

Robert was Ginette's great uncle:
George Samuel Rodgers (1880-c.1951) and Rose Ellen Mace (1887-c.1950) married in 1904 and had 12 children, including James Frederick and Robert Mace
Robert's brother James Frederick Rodgers (1909-c.1974) married Alathea Eva Hooton (1909-c.1975) in 1937 Robert Mace was their fourth child
Oldest son- Peter George Rodgers, married Pamela Quick  
Second daughter- Ginette, married Paul Orton  
Children- George, Harry and Juliet Orton
